Introduction
Black Box Innovations LLC ("we", "our", or "us") operates Friend Fast, a fasting timer application that lets you track your fasts and share progress with friends. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our app.
By using Friend Fast, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
When you use Friend Fast, you may provide the following information:
- Display Name: The name you choose to identify yourself to friends
- Profile Photo: An optional photo to personalize your profile
- Friend Connections: When you add friends via invite codes, we store these relationships
Information Generated Through Use
As you use the app, the following data is automatically generated:
- Share Code: A unique 12-character identifier assigned to your account
- Fasting Data: Start times, end times, durations, and target goals for your fasts
- Statistics: Aggregated data including current streak, fasts per week, and longest fast
- Milestones: Achievements such as personal records or streak milestones
- Device Identifier: Used to sync data across your devices and detect conflicts
Information Collected Automatically
We may collect certain information automatically, including:
- Apple App Analytics: If you have opted in to share analytics with developers through your iOS settings, Apple provides us with aggregated, anonymous usage statistics such as app sessions, device types, and crash reports. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Operational Analytics: We collect anonymized usage data to understand how the app is used, identify issues, and improve the user experience. This may include feature usage patterns, session duration, and error logs. This data is collected in aggregate and is not linked to your identity.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

How Your Data Is Shared
With Friends
When you connect with friends in the app, they can see:
- Your display name and profile photo
- Whether you are currently fasting
- Your current fast's start time and target duration
- Recent milestones (if you have milestone sharing enabled)
- Basic statistics (streak, fasts per week)
You control who can see this information by choosing which friends to add. Only users you have mutually connected with can see your fasting status.
With Service Providers
We use the following third-party services:
- Apple CloudKit: Your data is stored in Apple's iCloud infrastructure. Data in your private database is accessible only to you. Data in the public database (fasting status) is accessible to friends you've connected with. Apple's privacy policy applies to data stored in iCloud: apple.com/legal/privacy
- Apple Push Notification Service: Used to deliver notifications about friend activity and your own fasting progress
We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Storage and Security
Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored in two locations:
- On your device: Fasting history and cached profile data are stored locally on your iPhone
- In iCloud: Profile information, friend connections, and current fasting status are stored in Apple's CloudKit infrastructure
Data Security
We rely on Apple's security infrastructure for data stored in CloudKit. Data transmitted between your device and iCloud is encrypted in transit. Your private CloudKit data is protected by your iCloud account credentials.
Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Fasting history: Up to 400 most recent fasts are stored on your device
- Profile and friend data: Retained until you delete your account
- Analytics data: Retained in anonymized, aggregated form
Your Rights and Choices
Access and Portability
You can view all your fasting data within the app. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, which you control.
Correction
You can update your display name and profile photo at any time in the app settings.
Deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app. This will:
- Remove your profile from the Friend Fast service
- Delete your fasting status from the public database
- Remove your friend connections
- Delete your private data from CloudKit
To delete your account, go to Settings in the app and select "Delete Account." Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Managing Friends
You can remove individual friends at any time from the Friends tab. This removes the connection for both parties.
Notifications
You can disable notifications at any time through your iOS Settings or within the app.
Apple Analytics
You can opt out of sharing analytics with developers by going to iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share with App Developers.
For Users in the European Union
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Legal Basis: We process your data based on your consent (when you choose to use the app) and our legitimate interest in providing and improving our service.
- Right to Object: You may object to processing of your data for analytics purposes.
- Right to Erasure: You may request deletion of your data by using the in-app deletion feature or contacting us.
- Right to Lodge a Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
- Data Transfers: Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States through Apple's iCloud infrastructure. Apple maintains appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.

Children's Privacy
Friend Fast is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@friendfast.app and we will delete such information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
